Abstruct provided structural engineering and design services for the construction of a new, freestanding 6.1m x 3.2m (D48) signage structure at Robin Park Road, Wigan. A challenging, sloping site on poor ground conditions which would otherwise require a significant pad foundation was overcome with the use of a low embodied carbon solution with 4 steel screw piles and a steel sub-frame below the hardstanding. The high-level walk-in-box assembly was formed from SHS sections, pre-welded offsite in manageable segments for ease of delivery and installation.
