Graduate Structural Engineer

Within the Structural team you will be given the opportunity to develop and grow your engineering knowledge and skills whilst having the benefit of an experienced support network around you.

Main Responsibilities:

This graduate role will combine office/home-based (hybrid) working alongside professionals who are at the forefront of the industry, with opportunities to complete work across a wide variety of sectors from large domestic, residential, industrial, commercial, hotels, sports, hospitality and leisure industry, schools and competitive recreation amongst others. The successful candidate will be part of a small team, taking ownership of projects, their own workload and collaborating with our structural engineering team.

  • You will produce design solutions from initial conception, though to design completion for our structural engineering projects
  • Prepare calculations in Eurocodes and able to design in reinforced concrete, steel, masonry, timber and foundations
  • Prepare PDF mark-ups of designs
  • Compile calculation packs of designs for building control submission
  • Prepare technical reports
  • Communicate with the Client and wider design team
  • Attend meetings and undertake site visits

Skills, education & qualification preferred:

  • A degree in Civil Engineering / Structural Engineering or equivalent degree
  • With +2 to 5 years’ experience
  • Be familiar with current UK design and construction standards
  • A good working knowledge of TEKLA TEDDS, TSD.
  • Familiar with PDF marking up software (REVU Bluebeam or similar)
  • Familiar with BIM360 processes.
  • Basic understanding of AutoCAD.
  • Good communication skills and written English
  • Ability to work in a team to solve problems that matter
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office including Excel

Graduate Civil Engineer

The successful candidate will be part of a small team, taking ownership of projects, their own workload and collaborating with our structural engineering team.

  • You will produce design solutions from initial conception, though to design completion for our civil engineering projects
  • Production of drawings using AutoCAD; and where appropriate use PDS / Site 3D and MicroDrainage to support your designs
  • Prepare technical reports
  • Communicate with the Client and wider design team
  • Attend meetings and undertake site visits

Structural Revit Technician

Within the team you will be given the opportunity to work in a supportive and collaborative environment.

Main Responsibilities:

The Revit Technician will perform the functions of creating project deliverable Structural drawings and models on a diverse range of projects using the current versions of Autodesk software.

Work includes 3D parametric modelling, representation, and annotation of 3D information in 2D drawings and 2D detailing for complex projects. The candidate should be able to work in a self-directed manner in all aspects of the building design and document production process but also work collaboratively in a team environment.

  • Create 2D CAD & 3D Revit models to a high level of accuracy in conformance to Abstruct Consulting standards and practices.
  • Develop plans, sections, elevations, and details from a 3D BIM model for projects of all sizes and technical complexities.
  • Clearly annotate, dimension, and detail production drawings in conformance with Abstruct Consulting standards and practices.
  • Setup and manage large sheet sets including revisions and mark-ups for each project. Plot drawings to pdf, dwg, or to paper plots.
  • Assist and direct CAD/BIM workflow.
  • Set up and geo-locate multiple models for a single project.
  • Create 3D views or renderings on an as-needed basis for marketing or project use.
  • Use advanced tools such as Navisworks for project collaboration across multiple disciplines in a BIM environment.
  • Interface with engineers, clients, and other consultants through clear communication and drawings. Interact with our clients to coordinate CAD/BIM modelling content and approaches, model exchanges, quality control, and delivery.
  • Continued professional development of “best practices” with ISO19650 in mind.

Skills, education & qualification preferred:

  • A minimum of 10 years experience in the Structural Engineering sector.
  • A minimum of 5 years use of Revit, AutoCAD.
  • Experience in using Navisworks, Bim360, ACC, and other BIM-related supporting technologies is advantageous.
  • Excellent understanding of 3D parametric modelling procedures to maximize the benefits of an integrated building model.
  • Thorough understanding of building components for modelling structural components intelligently and efficiently to ensure the integrity of the structural model.
  • Excellent working knowledge of drawing production, standard construction techniques, and principles.
  • Experience data exchanges between CDE/ BIM platforms.
  • Experience with cross Design team clash detection processes would be an advantage.
