Schools & Community Buildings
ABSTRUCT provided full civil engineering design services for this project which included extensive discussions with Southern Water to develop technical solutions for the site. ABSTRUCT also provided structural design services for the new building’s substructure.
The new 3-storey teaching block comprised a specialist timber frame superstructure supported on a suspended piled concrete raft slab with integrated beams. ABSTRUCT coordinated the foundation design to suit extensive level changes within the footprint of the building. The ground floor slab and foundation design was developed to span across an existing World War II air-raid shelter tunnel system.
